Chicago was once an important center for the production of decorative lighting. From the Late 1800’s through the 1960’s many small factories located in Chicago produced carefully handcrafted lighting fixtures that graced the interiors of the cities important public buildings, hotels, stores and private residences. Over time many of these companies closed due to competition from overseas imports.
New Metal Crafts is one company that has not only survived but thrived and holds an important place in the history of Chicago Lighting. Founded over seventy five years ago in a small store front, New Metal Crafts has been fabricating and restoring decorative lighting for many important projects in Chicago as well as nationally and internationally.
